SHOCKING VIDEO: Edo Governor Adams Oshiomhole, Tells Crying Widow To 'Go And Die'
What Governor Adams Oshiomhole Said to a Poor Widow
[embedded content]
This can best be described as the most shocking remark ever made by a State Governor to a poor woman. The heart of a man who can say such things, especially in front of a huge crowd and cameras is desperately wicked.
This video shows Governor Adams Oshiomhole ostensibly leading officials of the state to sanitize the city of Benin, the Edo State capital. In the course of his tour of duty, he came across a widow roadside hawker.
What Governor Adams Oshiomhole Said to a Poor Widow
The poor widow knelt before the imperial governor, a former labour leader, begging for her little means of livelihood to be saved. She pleaded that she's a widow.
What Governor Adams Oshiomhole Said to a Poor Widow
But her pleas fell on the governor's deaf ear. In what could be regarded as the most unkind cut of all, the governor said the widowed woman should “go and die”!
Afterwards he stood for some seconds looking indifferently on how the officials took the women’s belongings away, and he left the scene of the drama.

The huge crowd which witnessed all these was too shocked to say, or to do anything. Absolutely shocking!!! from a Governor who claims to be 'A man of the people.

Sack threats: You will only worsen the situation – ASUU replies FG

Sack threats: You will only worsen the situation – ASUU replies FG

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has replied the federal government over its threat to sack university lecturers if they fail to call off its ongoing strike.
According to the striking lecturers, the threat would not only fail but will worsen the situation, hence “another long path to making the strike linger more than necessary.”
The ASUU National Treasurer, Dr. Ademola Aremu, while responding to the government’s directive, said the threat does not hold waters as it has confirmed the fears that the federal government cannot be trusted.

He said, “With the latest action, the federal government has shown that they are not committed to all they have been saying. We are saying that since we agreed at the meeting that the sum of 200 billion naira is for 2012 and 2013 revitalisation, the federal government should deposit same in the Central Bank of Nigerian. We are already in November and December is around the corner. If they don’t do that now, when do they want to do it? We are saying that the non-victimization clause should be included as agreed while the renegotiation of the 2009 agreement should be included as agreed with the presidents”.
“It is a pity if the federal government is not willing to perfect the resolutions reached with the union. This is why we find it difficult to trust our leaders by their words. How can someone be threatening to sack lecturers when universities are already short-staffed by almost 60,000. We are not in the military era. The military tried it and failed. This one will fail again.
“They can re-open the school. ASUU did not shutdown the universities. It was the management of the schools that ordered the students to go back home.”

ASUU Plans To Call Off Strike Jan 2014 — UNILAG faction

ASUU Plans To Call Off Strike Jan 2014 — UNILAG faction

The latest news on the 2013 ASUU Strike is that ASUU is planning to end the ongoing strike mid-January next year. This is according to faction of ASUU, UNILAG Chapter. According to the faction leader, Dr Adeyemi Daramola, the target of ASUU is to call off the strike by mid-January of 2014.
Read the full details of the latest ASUU Strike news update below:
Academic Staff Union of Nigerian Universities (ASUU) is planning to end the ongoing five-month strike mid-January next year, a faction of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) chapter alleged on Monday.
The faction, however, insisted that the closure of Nigerian universities by the lecturers must end this week.
Leader of the faction, Dr Adeyemi Daramola, a lecturer in the Department of English, Faculty of Arts accused the body of assuming oracular posture on the strike.
According to him, “The position of ASUU has not demonstrated original function of its rules which says “reports on agreement from the union universities’ branches should be collated and announced”.
“ASUU-NEC has assumed an oracular posture by its very poor communication to members, government and the Nigerian society.
“The target of ASUU is to call off the strike by mid-January of 2014 which is no longer a rumour in the domain of its members. We have postponed other meetings of this pressure version of UNILAG
ASUU to discuss issues and shall call a new one if ASUU-NEC fails to suspend the strike before the end off the week.
“If necessary, we shall take all legitimate steps to ensure that normalcy is restored to all the Nigerian universities as soon as possible, as the group would not accept the rumour of a resumption date fixed for January, 2014. About two universities’ academic calendar have been wasted on strike, including lecturers’ four months salaries lost.”
Controversies have continued to trail the participation of UNILAG’s chapter of the union, with the new faction allegedly creating uproar at the congress held in the institution yesterday.
Another leader of the anti-strike faction, Dr Michael Ogbeide of the History Department told the Nigerian Tribune on phone that “the ASUU strike had become nonsense and must be stopped. A lot of our members also believe so but are afraid to speak out.”
He assured that the faction would keep pressurising the leadership until the strike is called off.
When asked the next line of action if UNILAG ASUU leadership did not accede to the faction’s request, he said “as an historian, in war, you don’t divulge your strategy before hand.”
Early on Monday morning, there were rumours that the Unilag ASUU had decided to withdraw from the strike, but this was debunked by some members of the union, though it was confirmed that there was a split among the members, with Daramola’s faction reportedly kicking against the institution’s continued participation in the strike.
According to a source who pleaded anonymity, the congress actually turned out disorganised and divided, as some members, during the meeting began to protest, demanding UNILAG’s withdrawal from the strike.
It was learnt that after the meeting became rowdy, the two factions later held separate meetings, with both reportedly resolving to maintain their postures.
The main body insisted that the strike would be on until grey areas are sorted out.
Minister condemns ASUU’s conditions for suspension of strike The Supervising Minister of Education, Nyesom Wike has condemned the new conditions set out by the leadership of ASUU as a yardstick to call off its over four month old strike.
The minister, who said he was going to meet with President Goodluck Jonathan on the development, said the union wants immediate implementation of the N1.2 trillion offered by the government to public universities, starting with the release of N100 billion this year and the balance of N1.1 trillion to be spread over five years from 2014.
Wike, who spoke in Abuja on Monday added, that the Union though indicated readiness to call off the over-prolonged industrial action.
He stressed that the Federal Government and members of the National Assembly would engage the union further on its decision.
According to him, “ASUU has given new conditions, after they had an agreement with President Goodluck Jonathan at the Villa.
“He said, he would meet with the President on the new conditions by ASUU. Among the three conditions given by ASUU in order to end the strike were payment of four months salary arrears which accumulated during the period of the strike; immediate implementation of the N1.2 trillion offered by the government to public universities, starting with the release of N100bn this year and the balance of N1.1tn to be spread over five years from 2014”.
The union also demanded that the salary arrears must not be paid piecemeal. These were some of the resolutions reached by members of the National Executive Council of the union that met in Kano on Friday which has been sent to the Federal Government before they will call off the strike.
Reports indicated that the university lecturers in Nigeria have agreed to end the five-month old strike by ASUU. If the Federal Government agrees to three conditions.
EBSU dares ASUU, resumes tomorrow The management of Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki (EBSU) on Monday announced that academic activities would resume in all the campuses of the institution today.
It also ordered lecturers and students of the institution to return to classes following the inability of ASUU to end its over four-month strike in the country.
In a statement signed by the Registrar of the institution, Mr Sam N. Egwu, it stressed that the institution had resolved to commence academic activities, not minding the disagreement existing between ASUU and the Federal Government.
“Having waited patiently for Federal Government and ASUU to resolve the impasse behind the over four-month strike embarked upon by the union to no avail, the management of EBSU has resolved to re-open classes for learning to commence on Tuesday, the 26th day of November, 2013.
“We therefore inform all concerned that teaching and learning will begin fully on Tuesday, 26th, November, 2013. This is to enable us to cover what we have lost to the strike,” the statement read.
Nigerian Tribune learnt that the resolution was the outcome of the meeting held last week by the management of the institution, including lecturers where 80 per cent of the lecturers in attendance agreed that they should ignore the ASUU nationwide strike and return to class.
When Nigerian Tribune contacted the EBSU-ASUU chairman, Professor Ndubuisi Idenyi, he dissociated the ASUU chapter of EBSU from the purported reopening by the management and maintained that the strike was still in progress until there is a directive from their national leadership.”

BREAKING: ASUU May Suspend Strike Once Resolutions Reached With Jonathan Accepted

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has said they would suspend strike within 24 hours once the resolutions reached with President Goodluck Jonathan on November 4 were accepted.photo
The Union, however, described the statement credited to Supervising Minister and Minister of Education, Barr Nyesom Wike, that ASUU was making new outrageous demands as "untrue and absolute lie".
ASUU’s position was made known by the National Treasurer, Dr. Ademola Aremu, in an interview with The Nation in Ibadan on Wednesday.
The Union said it asked Jonathan to facilitate the endorsement of resolutions reached with him and signed by high ranking government official preferably the Attorney-General of the Federation but not a Permanent Secretary.
ASUU said their representative of the body, including the President of Nigeria Labour Congress, Abdulwahid Omar, would stand as witnesses.
Aremu also said the striking lecturers wanted the N200 billion agreed upon as 2013 revitalisation fund for public universities to be warehoused with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and disbursed to the benefiting universities.
He noted that ASUU appreciated the intervention of the President, but then added that some of the resolutions reached with Jonathan were not included in the letter sent to the Union.
According to him, the supervising Minister of Education forgot to mention that apart from the N30 billion earned allowances released for university staff, the FG was yet to release N100 billion claimed to have been released.

President Jonathan threatens SaharaReporters with libel, defamation

President Jonathan threatens SaharaReporters with libel, defamation...

Found this news on Sahara Reporters. Apparently the president is threatening to sue the online news agency for defamation for reporting that his health problems while in London may have been caused by heavy partying in celebration of his birthday last week.

Meanwhile, presidential spokesman Reuben Abati said yesterday that the president will return to Nigeria today having been certified fit to travel after receiving treatment for acute abdominal pains. The doctors said no surgical intervention was required. Sahara Reporters libel report below...
Nigeria leader, President Goodluck Jonathan, has threatened to take SaharaReporters to court for reporting that his health problems in London during the week may have resulted from heavy partying in celebration of his 56th birthday.
In a statement by his spokesman, Reuben Abati, the president condemned what he called the “utterly irresponsible, deplorable, highly unprofessional and unethical antics of certain fringe elements operating in the nebulous sphere of cyberspace who persist in seizing every opportunity to unjustifiably malign and impugn the character and integrity of the elected leader of their country.”
He said it was regrettable that while the public had been duly informed that Mr. Jonathan had received precautionary medical attention for an unexpected indisposition in London in compliance with the leader’s standing instruction that Nigerians must never be kept in the dark about the state of his health, SaharaReporters and other reckless, lawless, impudent and unpatriotic internet-based ignored the official script  “with their entirely fictional, malicious, hate-driven  and scurrilous distortion of the facts.”

Reiterating the denial of a party in London to celebrate President Jonathan's birthday on Wednesday night, Abati said the president upon arrival spent the day in the privacy of his hotel room and that it has never been his custom to celebrate birthday anniversaries. In particular, there was certainly no drinking spree, he claimed.

“As unregulated as they are, SaharaReporters and their ilk are not beyond the bounds of legal action for libel and willful defamation of the character and reputation of a President who has courageously stepped forward to serve his country,” the statement threatened.

“They know very well that they can never substantiate or prove the constant false allegations and innuendoes they publish for the sole purpose of negatively portraying President Jonathan and his administration.

“Their incessant claim of a bibulous President is pure fiction and blackmail, and the product of malicious imagination. We warn that our forbearance of their disrespectful caricaturing of the President is not limitless.”

Despite Mr. Jonathan’s threats and deployment of scare tactics, SaharaReporters stands by its account of the events in London in the past few days.

While we have the attention of the president and the hawks in the presidency, we take this opportunity to draw their attention to the scandalous quality of Nigerian governance that SaharaReporters and most of the Nigerian media have been reporting for many years, of which his government forms only a part.

As the 2015 election approaches and Mr. Jonathan tries to invite the sympathy of Nigerians in his favor, we challenge him to prove— including in a court of law—that these reports have been “entirely fictional, malicious, hate-driven and scurrilous distortion of the facts.”

ASUU Strike 2013 Update: Union Doesn’t Discuss What Happened in ‘Secret Meeting’

ASUU Strike 2013 Update: Union Doesn’t Discuss What Happened in ‘Secret Meeting’

The ASUU strike 2013 continues, and the latest update is that the union hasn’t discussed what happened in the “secret meeting” that went from Friday into Saturday.
There were indications on Friday night that the union was going to call off the strike on Saturday.
But no union members have publicly acknowledged the meeting, and none have disclosed what took place in the meeting.
The Punch set about trying to get a comment from multiple union members, as well as union president Nasir Fasse. But no one answered their phones or responded to text messages.
The meeting is being called the “secret meeting” because there was no official announcement from the ASUU that the meeting was happening, and the only sign the meeting was taking place came from insider information divulged through anonymous sources.
Representatives from over 50 universities were at the meeting, reported the Vanguard, citing anonymous sources.
Sources said the reason the union isn’t announcing anything publicly is because union leadership promised President Goodluck Jonathan that they would inform him of whatever decision was reached before going public.
The universities of the north favored calling off the strike, a source said, while universities from the south supported continuing the strike.
“However , we were able to take a middle course that would be pleasant to Nigerians,” the source said, “but that will not be discussed now at the public domain until we  meet Mr. President in line with our last discussion.”

ASUU strike: Again, government appeals to Union to end strike

ASUU strike: Again, government appeals to Union to end strike....

After having waited endlessly for the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, to end its ongoing strike over the non-implementation of the 2009 agreement it entered with the government, the Federal Government on Saturday, again, appealed to the protesting lecturers to call off its over four months strike, for the interest of the nation.
The Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, made the appeal on behalf of the government at the Oduduwa University, Ipetumodu. The appeal came while she was speaking with journalists after she was been conferred with an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Accounting by the University.

Also conferred with the Honorary Doctorate Degree was the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Lamido Sanusi. The CBN governor was honoured with Doctorate Degree in Economics. The ceremony was attended by special dignitaries, including the Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade and former Minister of Water Resources, Mr. Bashir Awotorebo.
Okonjo-Iweala in her appeal said, “I am appealing to ASUU to call off the strike in the interest of the students. The government, on its part, is committed to tackling the rot in the education sector. The Federal Government has acceded to most of the demands made by ASUU.
“Federal Government has set aside N220bn yearly for the development of tertiary institutions in the country. This is part of measures by the President Goodluck Jonathan-led administration to develop the education sector.”
Calling on well-meaning Nigerians to invest in education, the Minister said that any investment made towards the growth of education would affect the entire economy positively.
Recall that ASUU in its last meeting with President Jonathan had asked for more time to consult with stakeholders and zonal branches on the latest offer by the government.  let's keep our fingers crossed meanwhile after talking to few students, majority though tired of the strike are not willing to resume this year. talking to a student of the Ambrose Alli State University Ekpoma, Ajakaiye Queen; she lamented that the government has dashed the hopes of every student and she has discovered her passion for modeling and as a matter of fact, she's not ready to resume. Another 400L Law student of the same school has said "the year is over already, what's the need to resume when we cannot complete the semester this year? it's only painful that we'll have so much work to do next year because we have to make the Nigerian Law school next year."    If you ask me, i'd say this is very unfair to the students but what can we do? when the elites speak, the masses listen.

ASUU strike: Decision of union members after latest meeting

Nigeria’s striking Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) rose from a two-day National Executive Council Meeting (NEC) on Saturday in Kano with a resolve to keep mum until it met with President Goodluck Jonathan.
President Jonathan is due home on Sunday night, after attending a summit in London with investors. A serious stomach pain forced the president to skip the Thursday opening of the meeting.
ASUU’s meeting was held at an undisclosed venue, away from the ASUU secretariat, NAN reported.

However, a reliable source in the association who spoke on Saturday, in Kano, said: ‘’ASUU has decided to meet with President Jonathan before making whatever decision they took during the meeting public.’’
The source added that 60 per cent of the members wanted the strike called off while the remaining 40 per cent wanted it to continue.
The NEC meeting was billed to hold two weeks ago but was postponed following the death of a former ASUU President, Professor Festus Iyayi in a road accident in Lokoja.
ASUU embarked on a national strike that has shut down all Nigeria’s government owned universities, since July.
The academics wanted government to implement an agreement reached in 2009, that would improve funding for infrastructure in the universities and welfare of the teachers. what are we to expect? should we keep hoping eventhough the year has come to an end already?

In a new interview with Punch, the Egberi Papa 1 of Bayelsa, Timaya said he dated someone who had a bad record and that affected him. Timaya and actress Empress Njamah dated for a few years. Their much publicized affair ended in 2009.
“You should not date somebody who already has a negative record. In my own case, it affected me at that time. I feel that a relationship should be between two people and not exposed to the rest of the world. Only a smart man is able to keep his relationship private."
“You see, Desmond Elliot and Jimmy Jatt are both married, but you will never see their wives in public. Naturally I’m a private person.
